Some maps here from the Guardians national identity survey that show the realities of national identity in these isles: The Cornish Republican: Cornish Zetetics: Cornish terrify Guardian

Of note the strong showing of 'other' in Cornwall. More such maps can be found on my blog.

Aye, I clocked that. Was reading the Guardian in the pub the other day, and noticed it. They were puzzled by the strong showing of "other" in Cornwall, when they asked folk if they felt more English or British. In industrial parts of England, there were obvious other factors, e.g. immigration (from overseas, and from the Celtic areas), but Cornwall didn't

They also included the IoM, not in the UK, where there were several examples of "other".

The idea that people might feel Cornish or Manx is pretty obvious to some of us, but apparently not in London.

Then again, it's only recently the Guardian seems to have twigged that Scotland and Wales exist, and should be reported. It pretends to be "left liberal", but is still anglocentric... it's only taken them over a decade to report devolution, and understand the SNP and Plaid.
