Pro-Manx graffiti daubed on roads

Bed sheets have been hung from bridges

Slogans, thought to be linked to Manx nationalism, have been daubed on roads and bridges in the west of the island.

Mannin seyr, which means "free the Isle of Man", and mannin aboo, which translates as "Isle of Man forever", have been painted in gold and silver.

The huge lettering will cost hundreds of pounds to remove and is also causing a distraction to drivers, police said. [Rubbish!]

Sgt Stuart Gardner said there had also been a spate of union jack flag thefts in recent weeks.

Bed sheets

"We hope this is just some people making a nuisance of themselves and it has no sinister reasons behind it.

"We believe it does have a link to Manx nationalism but it's not going to help people on the Isle of Man as it is just costing the taxpayer," he added.

Bed sheets daubed with paint have also been hung off bridges in the Kirk Michael and Devil's Elbow areas.

Sgt Gardner appealed for witnesses to come forward with information.

An excellent news story.

Aye, good to hear what is happening in the neighbouring nations, instead of the usual "main" one.

It always amused me that Westminster claims to be the "mother of all parliaments". Tynwald is older...
