Billy Kay is one of the leading influences in the movement to legitimise Scots as a valid spoken and literary language. More power to his pen ! And voice !

NB - I am not the same person as the poster "Scottish republic".

It ios a MOVEMENT and he is only one of many, but he is important.

I think Hugh MacDiarmid, Willie Soutar, Sydney Goodsir Smith, Helen Cruickshank etc etc all have more to do with it... I don't mind Billy Kay, but I think he's a fairly mediocre writer.

I get a wee bit pissed off with some of the "translations" that I see getting done, because they're so bad. But then again, I live in Edinburgh, so I don't hear much of the real thing these days. (When I lived up north, I heard proper Doric all the time.)

Astonishing that at school I learned English, latin, French and German with even some Gaelic, but Zero Scxots. Of course Burns once a year just before 25 January.

I grew up hearing Scots all around me (in Fife) but still have problems in writing in that langauge ! In that I am sure, I am not alone.
