Jist the Graith
Àdhamh MacLeòid

Frae ben tae ben, frae loch tae loch, an’ toun tae toun,
Frae glen sae wull whaur burns they breenge by breckan broon,
Frae coast tae coast, ah’ll ware ma wizzen reengin’ throu,
This praicious lan, Cape Wrath tae Gretna Green it’s trow….

Ye’ve got aw the graith Ah need, ho-ro
Ye’ve got aw the graith Ah need, ho-ro
Thur’s nae lan that maun compete,
(Wi’ ye! Fir us! Kis ye!)
Ye’ve got jist the graith we need

Yer gouden glowe o feedle greets the keek o day,
Snawcappit ben wi gloamin licht a’ growin fey,
Yer eilean jowels lie skailt, seilie whaur machair lay,
Frae Ùibhist ‘lan o bigg’ ower sey tae Galloway….

Ye’ve got aw the graith Ah need, ho-ro
Ye’ve got aw the graith Ah need, ho-ro
Thur’s nae lan that maun compete,
(Wi’ ye! Fir us! Kis ye!)
Ye’ve got jist the graith we need

Ye’ve leeved a thoosan million lives syne ye were born,
Yer bairnie’s bairns’ve cast yer peat an’ heezed yer corn,
Ye’ve grown up, mairret, faucht an’ deied, yit aye prevailt,
This praicious lan, frae Pittenweem up tae Kintail….

Ye’ve got aw the graith Ah need, ho-ro
Ye’ve got aw the graith Ah need, ho-ro
Thur’s nae lan that maun compete,
(Wi’ ye! Fir us! Kis ye!)
Ye’ve got jist the graith we need

Airson an fhirinn tha mi seinn
Nach seinn sibh còmhla rium?
Airson an fhirinn tha sinn seinn
Nach seinn sibh còmhla rinn?

Everything I Need
Adam Byrne Leodson

From peak to peak, from lake to lake and town to town
From dales so wild where streams they rush past bracken brown,
From coast to coast, I’ll spend my life just travelling through,
This precious land, Cape Wrath to Gretna Green it’s true….

You’ve got everything I need, ho-ro
You’ve got everything I need, ho-ro
There’s no land that can compete,
(With you! For us! ‘cause you!)
You’ve got everything we need

Your golden glow of field that greets the break of day,
Your snowcapped peak as light of dusk begins to fade,
Your island gems lie scattered, blessed where machair lay,
From Uist ‘land of barley’ over sea to Galloway….

You’ve got everything I need, ho-ro
You’ve got everything I need, ho-ro
There’s no land that can compete,
(With you! For us! ‘cause you!)
You’ve got everything we need

You’ve lived a thousand million lives since you were born,
Your children’s children cut your peat and raised your corn,
You’ve grown up, married, fought and died, yet still prevailed,
This precious land, from Pittenweem up to Kintail….

You’ve got everything I need, ho-ro
You’ve got everything I need, ho-ro
There’s no land that can compete,
(With you! For us! ‘cause you!)
You’ve got everything we need

For the truth I am singing,
Wont you sing along with me?
For the truth we are singing,
Wont you sing along with us?

Tha sin uabhasach math Mgr MacLeoid! (An e thusa MacLeoid a-nis :secret: ?)

Did you happen to see Skerryvore on A' Gharaids? Very useful as an example of Scottish and, in that case Beurla being sung toghether to great effect...I much prefer the idea of Scottish and Scots toghether though. :sing: :sing:

I think the song was called 'Greim air m'Anail' (Hold Your Breath). Wis magic so it wis  .

Chan fhaca mi e riamh, inntinneach ge-ta

I was brought up as a MacLeod by my grandmother, who's name it was. As my only grandparent and the only person who was interested in Scottish history, culture and language, i took all my interest in our country from her. My father never gave me a sense of my Irishness, from which he came in his entirety -I didn't even know i was Irish until about ten years ago- and so the Scottish half of me, happily, came out on top.

My gran turns 100 in April, and Lachlann has had MacLeòid put into his name as a mark of respect to her. I also feel much more in touch with this name than Byrne as the MacLeod's were the last living speakers of the Scottish in my family too, to cap things off....
