Right folks we have now got a new Petition out for the return of the Wallace safe conduct letter on a permanent loan basis
Now we have got Prof Barrow, Dr Fiona Watson and Christine Grahame MSP backing this petition I feel we have got a great chance of achieving our goal of getting this letter back to were it belongs
Can you please sign it and also put it on as many Message boards as you know to enable us to achieve our dream of gettinmg this letter(the only thing we have of anything to do with Wallace) back to Scotland

This is from another site but briiliant
Came across a very nice tribute from Alex Salmond in alecture he gave the day after Davy's funeral which might be appreciated by those who knew Davy.

It begins at 27 ' 35 '' into the video.

Just been checking through the archives and came across this:
Quote:
I found a reply to one of my earlier queries to xxxx, the MP for xxxx. He enclosed a copy of his reply from a Baroness Ashton, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State from the Department of Constitutional Affairs, the ministry apparently responsible for this issue. I won't bore you with all the details, suffice to say she walks all the way round describing it as a letter of safe conduct, but kindly provided a URL where it can be seen online:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/imagelibrary/military/02.htm

Second one down, Image reference: SC 1/30 m.81

Where, funnily enough, it is referred to as "Philip IV of France: safe conduct pass for William Wallace, Pierrefonds, 3 November [1298]"

Do they have trouble saying the words?

Now, if you check the URL and take a look, it has changed description to:
Quote:
Philip IV of France: letter to his agents in Rome concerning William Wallace, Pierrefonds, 7 November [1300]

Strange, n'est pas?

From Duncan Fenton SOWW

Hi Guys. This is the link for the petition on Electric Scotland's website. Alastair was as good as his word. I'm sure this will bring in many signatures.

Not too sure were start here as cant force people to sign the petition
although
as said before find it hard that, This has nothing to do with Politics one
bit incase some people thing this is a political thing we are trying to stir
up and
score points, THIS is a Wallace thing nothing else, its why we have the
historians on board that we have as they would see straight throught this
Wallace is my Hero as he was for the late David R Ross who stated all this and
we are continuing the fight alone.
now as david is no longer here, I wish he was here at times as he was better at
this stuff than me, So come on can we please have one more big massive push, it
will not take too much of your time to fill in the petition 2 min at a push if
that, Lets back up the historians who are doing so much work behind the scenes
that we have all our facts and history part right for our fight to get this
back, Wallace was for the people, The monument was done by the ordinary people
and the Walk for Wallace was done by the ordinary people so come on lets keep
that going and get the signature done and out and about on every message board that you know and get us up to at least 2500 signatures, I wanted
5000 but struggling with that I think

The petition for the return of the Wallace 'Safe Conduct' letter is now heading into its final week before the closing date. I'm sure everyone has came across this already on other sites and various Facebook pages, but please, if you haven't already signed please do so now, and if you have signed, then pass it onto to any of your family and friends that may help this cause

The petition has been extended to the 23rd Aug to enable the historians to have a water tight case

Also there will be an article in the Sunday Express this Sunday about the letter

Just to keep you all in the loop, The petition will be held off till the meetings with the historians finish in March, 1 meeting has already taken place and when I get the minutes through from that will let you all know , still plenty work going on behind the scenes so dont think we just sitting back waiting for the meetings by the way
