Well what a guid day !!!

In all seriousness its a great day to promote your national Identity and both myself and S.R have taken many positives from the Welsh effort to generate ideas for a similar St Andrews day version. a crackin turnout in the Sunny (but windy) welsh capital today with many more there than was expected.

The SADR organisers would be interested in how they organise their day etc, i emailed them a few weeks ago via their website for advice on making our own St. Andrews rally better and they never responded :???:

I did ask a couple of the Welsh organisers if they could make it. I don't think they will come up, but they gave some decent tips. They have agreed to write a letter for St Andrews day, which could be read out.

Put it this way. The first one (less than five years ago, I think) got 100 folk. This one got two thousand, and included addresses by the Mayor of Cardiff, Plaid members of the Welsh Government, a children's choir singing, plus a great brass band, a small heavy horse troop (which I originally thought was British army, but wasn't!), an address by some churchman (don't ask me which - I should know, since I was actually chatting to him at one point), plus people from Brittany, Cornwall, and some from Scotland (including you know who and a pipe band). etc. Very family friendly event, there was a guy dressed up as a dragon, the Cardiff Blues (rugby) choir, representatives from the various Welsh language schools, and even St David himself. Lots of Welsh flags (not just dragons) and not a butcher's apron in sight (except on some of the buildings. I do notice that the one that was over Cardiff station seems to have gone missing though. Definitely wasn't me!)

Great weather too. That's my main problem with St Andrew's Day - it's at the wrong time of year really!

I enjoyed meeting Alba gu Beavis too.

Not yet. The Cornish have got them, and I have to get one or two developed from my disposable camera.

Many thanks to both of you for representing Scotland in Cymru, and also for the association with Kernow. Look forward to seeing the photos. AGB, thanks for the effort involved (SR knows I'm familiar with his efforts in this respect and that thanks are superfluous in his case).

Much appreciated.

If that is 2000 people in the photo then there must have been 5000 at the SADR last year.

Maybe doesn't look like that in the photo, Montrose, but this thing was far bigger than the IF March last year. I was at both, so I think I know what I'm talking about - and I'm not one to exaggerate too much about these things. (I think some Bannockburn marches may have been bigger, but apart from them, and the "Make Poverty History" one in Edinburgh, this was pretty huge by Scottish standards)

The photos in the Welsh remembrancer make the thing look much smaller than I remember. There were bands, and horses, and choirs, and children etc... it was pretty big.

Probably best to wait a few days for images/film to get online.

No problem!

I have checked out some of the pictures on Flickr (unfortunately I can't watch film clips just now), but few of them give an idea of the scale.

All I can say, is good on them, and I hope we can replicate it here. The only thing is St Andrews Day is in November! Fortunately independence day is in the Spring, so that might be our big holiday of the future.

This is the front of the march, and one of the better pictures I could find.
[Deleted picture since it was one from LAST YEAR!]

Here's another video (haven't watched it yet)
