I drive past it everyday when going in and out of work and the flag pole is always bare, seems a bit of a shame not to fly the flag of our country at such an important landmark.

Anyone know if there is any reason behind this?

Probably a similiar reason to why the board in the Luss visitors centre states proudly that 'the brittish troops were waiting on them' when referring to the vikings coming up against the Scottish at the battle of Largs- the visitors centre manager said that it was the loch lomond and trossachs national park that put it up, -
I also got the statement that its probably because we are brittish now !

so i asked the question - does that mean it was britain that won the world cup in 1966 - i think he took my point,

next time im at luss il fix that board/sign myself!

The flagpole is now unsafe, and awaiting replacement. Not sure of the current status of this, but I know that last time I spoke to the centre manager I was told that it was in hand, but awaiting funding. Perhaps the Scottish Government could be leaned on to hurry this up a bit...

Ah fired off an email tae them on their contact us section, got this reply today echoing what Jolly Sailor said:

Its been in this condition for more than 2 years.Whats keeping them? I went in to the visitors center one Sunday after the commemoration to ask where all the wreaths had gone as there were none at the monument where there were at least 4 the day before.All flowers are removed the same day as they are laid.I was raging as I told them people have spent good money on these flowers and expect them to remain for more than a couple of hours.

aye? that's a bit oot ae order, dinae see wit harm just leaving them there wid dae.

Just heard from quite a reliable source that work will be done on the Bannockburn flagpole but there are other very important things to carry out at the site first.Im sure the flag will be back in place come 2014.

They said that if they are not removed they get vandalised and make the place look untidy for tourerists.

NB - I am not the same person as the poster "Scottish republic".

I had a talk with McMaster at Bannockburn last Saturday & asked him about the flag. The reason it's not up yet is because the whole area is still a building site. He says the work is ahead of schedule & will be completed in time for the 700th.
He asked me if we were having a commemoration again this year & I said yes.

He told me about the recent digs & further digs scheduled for this summer.

All looking good.

was pleased tae see the Saltire prouldy flying in its rightful place when I drove passed Bannockburn earlier!

The flag is now back in it's rightful place, atop the new top section of the flagpole which replaced the cracked bit.

Had a chat with Scott McMaster at Duncarron Fort on Sat. He'll be elsewhere on Saturday.

There will also be digs going on, covering some loops of the river & residents back gardens.
