Ireland was in the Union from 1801 to 1922.

The mid point between 1801 and 1922 is 1861 (1861.5 actually).

I guess that makes sense. Trade from empire is given by some as a justification for Union and 1861 would have been around the high point of Empire. The British had suppressed the Indian "Mutiny", the Americans were in Civil War and the German wars of reunification had not really started.

1861.5 is also the mid point between 1707 and 2016!
