The Siol nan Gaidheal website has been updated today. As part of our ongoing cultural remit, the first part of a three-stage project has been placed online this morning. Copies of the entire contents of Part II of the "National Manuscripts of Scotland", (1296 - 1488) originally published 1869-71, are now available for perusal from the website. Parts I and III will be published at a later date.

These books are very large, and due to the difficulty of scanning such items, are represented in photographic form. One or two of the photographs are not perfect, and will be replaced as time permits. However, overall this is a huge task and one which will no doubt assist historians and others interested in Scottish history. It is believed that the only previous publication of these manuscripts is on a very expensive set of CDs, and this project has been undertaken to make these valuable documents from Scotland's past available to a much larger audience.

Many of the files are almost 1 Mb in size, and will take time to download.
