The Raising of the Standard
Meet at Dudhope Castle car park at 11:30 am
March from the Castle at 12 noon to the top of Dundee Law where the King's Royal Standard will be unfurled.

Did he choose Dundee because of Cromwell's actions there a few decades earlier?

No, he lived there, in Dudhope Castle, and was Lord Provost of Dundee at the time. His son had been born at Dudhope just a few days before he raised the standard - in effect a declaration of war against the House of Orange. If you go up the Law, there are information boards about its history, including stuff about Cromwell - but not a word about John Graham of Claverhouse. We (as in Kenny, myself and others) are trying to get that rectified, it's a very important part of Dundee's history. Strangely enough, if you look at the Council book for the week of this event, it's blank... No-one dared write anything in there until it became apparent which side was more likely to come out ahead. It's the only gap in the Council books between 1652 and the present date...
